A fomentation is the use of cloth and tea secured to the body and if applicable using hot and cold therapy to increase circualtion to the desired area.

So I broke or sprained my wrist skateboarding, This is my Fomentation application. First I dry skin brush the area to open the skin. Made some tea Earlier.

Here is me applying an ointment to aid the healing process.                                        This is a cloth soaking partially in the hot/warm BF&C W/comfrey Tea.

The first Cloth is secured and soaked in warm BF&C Tea.                                         A second cloth is wrapping the first one and secured tightly.

Now to seal the cloth so the moisture stays within and the skin pores open.            Use any kind of tape and secure the edges leaving a few openings is fine.

Use hot water packs to bring more blood to the area.                                               Use cold water packs to remove blood from the area, alternate hot/cold to feel.

You can always add more tea by pouring it in carefully or using a baster or syringe as shown here (used without metal tip).

I hope this helps define the Fomentation process for you.

This would be done 6 out of 7 days a week and changed about three times a day. The more hot/cold therapy used the better, also fasting and fevers are common bodily responses to broken bones and extreme wounds.
